AUSTRALIAN grain production has been scaled back by 200,000 tonnes for the 2018-19 season, according to a recent report.

The International Grains Council Report, published late last month, forecast a total Australian grain production figure of 27.7 million tonnes for the season, down on the October figure of 27.4 million tonnes.

Australian wheat production for the 2018-19 season is set at 16.6 million tonnes, a dramatic drop on last year’s 21.2 million tonne production figure.

The IGC report lowered total world grain production for the 2018-19 season by two million tonnes month-on-month, with total world grain consumption placed one million tonnes lower, linked to adjustments for feeding and industrial uses of wheat and sorghum.

The world wheat production forecast was unchanged from October to November, stagnating at 729 million tonnes.
