The 2018/19 season witnesses a drop in Russian and Ukrainian pea exports because of declined production of this crop in the mentioned countries.
During the first five months of the current season (July-November) Russia decreased exports by 25% compared to the same period in MY 2017/18. Ukrainian pea exports declined by 23% against July-November 2017/18.
The European Union has become the top buyer of Black Sea peas this season. Demand from the European Union offset a decrease in pea shipments to their previous key Asian destinations such as India, Pakistan Bangladesh, etc.
As a reminder, UkrAgroConsult estimates Russia's 2018 pea crop down 15-18% from 2017) and Ukraine’s crop – by 23% less against last year. Due to lower crop export potential of both countries will reduce.
UkrAgroConsult expects farmers’ interest in pulses production remains stable in the next season, taking into account record high rates of exports to EU countries.
