On January 1-10, winter crop growing areas in the south and southeast of Kazakhstan were exposed to less favorable weather conditions for crop survival; precipitation rates were below normal, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Most of Jambyl and Turkestan regions were free of snow – this may result in winterkill of crops there if air temperature drops. Stable snow cover (15-31 cm) remained in West Kazakhstan and Almaty regions, therefore low temperature on the ground surface (22-23˚С below zero) posed no threat to crops. Minimum soil temperature at the depth of winter wheat’s tillering node varied from 0˚С to -4˚С.
