Russia. Favorable weather promoted germination, growth and development of winter crops

The European part of Russia was exposed to unstable weather on October 1-10. During almost half these days the average daily air temperature was 1-2°C below normal, while daytime air temperatures did not exceed 7…9°C. Air or ground-surface frost events (-3…-1°C) occurred almost everywhere. During 5-6 days of the reporting period, air temperature peaked at +11…15°C, even reaching +18…20°C in the south on some days. Winter crops grew actively on these days, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Following rainfall (15-30 mm of precipitation, locally up to 40-45 mm and higher), winter crops were provided with adequate amounts of soil moisture almost everywhere.

Farmers were completing the harvest of late grains and industrial crops. The agrometeorological conditions were mainly fair for harvesting operations during 4-5 days, but in the remaining days of the reporting period they deteriorated because of rain and too wet topsoil.

The Southern and North-Caucasian federal districts were dominated by warmer-than-usual weather. Planting of winter grains continued in the majority of areas; it is almost over in some regions. Rain fell in most of the territory (8-15 mm, locally 20 mm and higher). Predominantly warm weather and adequate soil moisture supply promoted fast germination, emergence, growth and development of winter crops. They are mostly in good condition.
