According to regional divisions of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), since the beginning of the season-2018/19 (July 1) and as of February 4, Russia already imported 2.2 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds, as well as its by-products, which met the purchased volumes in the same period last season, reported the Federal State-Funded Institution "Federal Centre of Quality and Safety Assurance for Grain and Grain products" on February 11.
The supplies of 10 major crops formed the main share of the reporting import volumes (93%), and as of the reporting date the figures reached 2 mln tonnes. Soybeans became the most high-demand crop on the Russian market, which purchases totaled 1.3 mln tonnes (61% of the general imports), down 0.3% compared with the same period last season. Wheat took the second position in the rating (14%), and the grain import volumes increased by 1% — to 303 thsd tonnes.
Also, Russia increased the imports of rapeseed in 6 times compared with the previous year level — to 41 thsd tonnes, as well as peas — up 7 times to 22 thsd tonnes, due to the growth of the supplies from Kazakhstan.
At the same time, the number of suppliers of the reporting crops to Russia increased to 70 countries, against 69 ones in the same period last season. To date, the TOP-3 of leading suppliers included Brazil — 746 thsd tonnes (34% of the general volumes), Paraguay — 518 thsd tonnes (24%), and Kazakhstan — 465 thsd tonnes (21%).
