Ukraine. Soybean yield up almost 36% on the year

OILCROPS. According to the Ag Ministry of Ukraine, sunseed had been harvested from 5669.9 Th ha by October 22, i.e. from 94% of its projected area of 6056.1 Th ha. The harvest is 4.2% ahead of 2017. The crop amounted to 12622.6 KMT with an average sunseed yield of 2.23 MT/ha (up 14.4% from 2017). By the same date a year ago, farmers harvested 10624 KMT of sunseed from 5443Th ha with an average yield of 1.95 MT/ha, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Soybeans had been harvested from 1485.3 Th ha by the reporting date (87% of their projected area of 1709.2 Th ha). Their harvest is now 4.8% behind last year. Farmers combined 3771.3 KMT of soybeans with an average yield of 2.54 MT/ha (+35.8% from 2017). A year ago, 2921 KMT was harvested from 1560 Th ha with an average yield of 1.87 MT/ha.

According to current reports, the planted area of winter rape is already as large as 1010.9 Th ha. This is 114% of the projected 888 Th ha and 20.5% more than a year ago (839 Th ha).

GRAINS. Ukrainian farmers continue harvesting late grains. Corn harvest was 60% complete as of October 22, with its progress being 21% ahead of that seen as of October 23, 2017. At the same time, the combined corn crop is now 75% larger than a year ago.

The planting of winter grains was 94% complete as of the reporting date. It is 4% ahead of last year.
