Bulgaria. Sunseed prices decreased last week pressured by world market trends

According to the Ag Ministry of Bulgaria, sunseed had been harvested from 707.4 Th ha by October 5, or from 96% of the forecast 735 Th ha. Farmers obtained 1816.8 KMT of sunseed with a yield of 2.57 MT/ha. The harvest is 9.5% behind last year, but the yield is 12.2% higher than in 2017, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The sunseed market in Bulgaria closed last week with another price decrease. In general, the market situation underwent no significant changes. Pressure came from the same factors. Export shipments are far behind last year (-73%). This concerns exports to both Europe and Turkey, which is the biggest non-EU importer. Sunseed price closed this past week down BGM 5/MT or USD 2/MT down.

The domestic rapeseed market is gradually becoming flat and this trend reflects on its prices. So, rapeseed price remained at last week’s level. Traders are focused on the execution of previously signed contracts.

Planting of winter rape slowed down last week, being 3.8% behind last year as of October 5. Farmers seeded 110.9 Th ha to this crop against 115.3 Th ha a year ago.
