According to the Statistics Committee at the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2018/19 MY the harvest volumes of flaxseed reached the record level of 933.5 thsd tonnes, an increase of 37% compared with the previous season (683.3 thsd tonnes). Expansion of the planted areas (1103.6 thsd ha, against 869.7 thsd ha in the previous season) and the high yield figures (0.87 t/ha, against 0.8 t/ha) became the reason for such significant growth of the oilseed production.
The significant growth of flaxseed supply in Kazakhstan and the traditionally high demand for the oilseed from various global importers contributed to the record shipment rates in the first months of the season. So, in December 2018 the exports of flaxseed reached 72.2 thsd tonnes, which became the monthly record in the whole contemporary history. Kazakhstan supplied the major volumes to Belgium (36 thsd tonnes) and Poland (13.1 thsd tonnes).
Generally, since the beginning of 2018/19 MY (September-December) the exports of flaxseed reached 209 thsd tonnes, up 46% compared with the same period last season.
