Ukraine. Sunflower meal will be in demand from end consumers in MY 2018/19

The sunflower seed market is gaining pace in the new 2018/19 season. The harvest is drawing to an end, confirming forecasts of some market participants and adjusting others’ vision of further developments.

At the moment, the forecasts for the 2018/19 season look quite optimistic and stable. Expectations of record sunflower seed production (UkrAgroConsult estimates it at 15.4-15.5 MMT) will also lead to new highs in crushing, exports of sunflower oil (+13.2% from MY 2017/18) and sunflower meal (+17% from MY 2018/19).

At the same time, the 2018/19 results will to some degree be influenced by world prices for vegetable oils and meals, specifically by a competitive advantage of soybean oil over sunflower oil and an opposite situation in meal trade.
